A Time of Restoration

(Last edited: Thursday, 16 August 2007, 12:58 PM)

CD4

I believe that God is concerned with the restoration of two peoples to whom He's related by a covenant which He has declared He will never break.  The first, historically, is Israel.  The second is the Church.

Appointment in Jerusalem

(Last edited: Thursday, 16 August 2007, 12:58 PM)

Appointment

…Out of true love and concern, we must pray as the  psalmist tells us, "for the peace of Jerusalem," remembering that peace can only come to Jerusalem as Israel returns back to God.  God has shown me that from now on to pray in this way for Jerusalem will be the  highest form of service that I can render Him.

Appointment

(Speaking of Lydia Prince, Derek's first wife)  As I look back over the years that we spent together, there are four aspects of her character that stand out most clearly - her honesty, her courage, her loyalty, and her humour.  There were two words that never applied to her - she was never boring and never insincere.

Atonement

We can get involved in many forms of teaching, ministry & Christian activity that may be good in their own way.  But if they are separated from the sacrifice of the cross, ultimately they lose their effectiveness.

Complete Salvation

(Last edited: Friday, 4 January 2008, 1:42 PM)

Complete salvationWe need to understand clearly that the old man is incorrigible.  God does not try to improve him - He does not send him to church or teach him Scripture.  He has only one solution for the old man inside us and the solution is execution.  However, the message of mercy is tha tthe execution took place two thousand years ago when Jesus died on the cross.  Our old man was crucified with Him.

Complete Salvation

(Last edited: Friday, 4 January 2008, 1:42 PM)

Complete SalvationWhat God did on the cross is a finished, historical fact.  It is true whether or not we know it or believe it.  But, when we know it and believe it and apply it, it works in us.  Just as Jesus was executed on the cross, so I believe my old, fallen, rebellious, corrupt nature was put to death.  Death is the way out - the only way out - of the fallen, Adamic nature.  Wand we take the way out through the death of jesus on the cross - though identification.  Paul tells us, "Reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin."

Complete SalvationChrist's death was followed by His burial.  How are we identified with Him in burial?  By baptism in water. That is why baptism is so important.  The identification with His death is inward, but our identification with Him in burial is outward.  It is a visible identification with the Lord.

End of Life's Journey

(Last edited: Tuesday, 16 October 2007, 1:11 PM)

End of Life's JourneyI am concerned that we do not allow ourselves to forget one simple, objective, unchanging fact: death is real and it is unpleasant.  It is painful and cruel. Any view of life that cannot accept this fact is deceptive and unrealistic.  Any philosophy or religion that does not have a positive answer to the reality of death is inadequate to meet the needs of humanity.  What distinguishes the Christian faith from all other religions and philosophies is that it has a positive, proven answer to death.

Entering the Presence of God

(Last edited: Tuesday, 16 October 2007, 1:17 PM)

Entering the Presence of GodWe thank God because we are grateful for what He has done. When we praise Him, we are acknowledging His greatness,  but that is not the end. Many of us stop there. We have entered into the courts, but what are we there for? We are there to worship. If we stop after a praise song, we may have had a good time, but we haven’t really found the heart and the purpose of God. There is something crying out for more. We desire the presence of the Lord. We yearn to be in direct contact with the living God and to offer Him the only thing we have to offer, our worship. So let’s continue our journey and ask the Lord if, by His grace, He will enable us to enter into His presence. For when we are in His presence, we will begin to truly worship.

No human pen has ever written anything that equals the logic and the perfection of Paul’s epistle to the Romans. So if you are students or whatever you are, don’t feel inferior for saying you believe the Bible. It’s not a mark of inferiority, it’s a mark of good sense.

What is discretion?  When God has given you understanding and when He's given you insight, discretion is knowing what to do with it.  And that's where many of us slip up.  You know, you see the truth about somebody but that's not enouth.  You've got to know when to tell it and how to tell it.  I think discretion to a large extent is knowing what to say and what not to say and knowing when to say it.

MP3Let me say frankly that any woman who allows herself to be sexually exploited by man, to have sexual relations with a man, without that man first making a covenant commitment, she is really prostituting her personality. I am not just talking in terms of sexual morality but I am saying that in actual fact that woman is desecrating the most precious thing that she has - her personality. She is exposing her whole personality to someone who is not willing to pay the price that God requires. It is the same with a man. A man is doing the same when he has relations with a woman but there is no commitment, there is no covenant. The purpose of marriage is this deep, ongoing, intimate, personal relationship protected by commitment. This relationship should be continually deeper and richer as the marriage continues.

The water represents this world, the rock represents eternity. The water represents this world, the rock represents the next world. When you are in Christ you have a right to cast your anchor into that "Rock of Ages" and all the storms that blow and the tempest and the hurricanes will never detach you from that rock. That rock is Christ, it's the word of God, it's the two immutable things by which God could not lie: his word and His oath. The way that we anchor into it is hope. Hope is the anchor.

MP3One night in 1941 in an army barrack room somewhere about midnight when no one else was awake, I had a personal encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ. And in that encounter, I discovered I had met the Answer. And then a little later I read in Colossians concerning Jesus Christ, "In Him are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge." And I said to myself, "Why should I grub around any longer in the rubbish bins of human wisdom when all the treasures are hidden in Jesus Christ?"

They shall expelI felt as if a heavy burden had been lifted from my shoulders. I was free! All my life had been under that oppression...I discovered quickly that freedom was normal and that oppression was abnormal.

They shall expelGod taught me another important lesson: He would do for me what I could not do for myself, but He would not do for me what He required me to do for myself. God...delivered me from the spirit of heaviness, but...He held me responsible to exercise scriptural discipline over my own thoughts.

Who is the Holy Spirit? No matter where we may go, God is there by His Spirit - invisible, often imperceptible, but inescapable. For the unbeliever this may be a terrifying thought, but for the believer it is a comforting, strengthening assurance.

Who is the Holy Spirit? There is another unique fact about the Holy Spirit that stretches our powers of comprehension. The Spirit is both personal and non-personal - both a "He" and an "it".
